Ephesians 4:11-12 says: ‘So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.’ What might this have to do with business, and how we go about our daily work? Discussing this at our February FiBM will be Simon Guillebaud, MBE and Jamie MacAlister. They will show how God calls us to ‘Start where you are, with what you’ve got, how you can’, and share examples highlighting the role relationships play - so we are Equipped for Beautiful Work.
Simon Guillebaud, MBE has spent two decades in what is currently the poorest and hungriest country in the world. At heart he is an evangelist, but he wears many hats, including one of being a social entrepreneur. That has involved building the best conference centre in Burundi (see www.kccburundi.org), a failed transport venture, and some beautiful micro-finance initiatives.Simon has amazing stories to share of God at work amongst witchdoctors, Muslims, students, prostitutes and more.Founder of Great Lakes Outreach, he’s passionate about authentic radical costly discipleship. He and his wife Lizzie were awarded MBEs by her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for services to Burundi. They are now based in Bath with their three children.
Jamie MacAlister is a regular visitor to Uganda, having lived there with his wife, Jenny for 18 months while he was involved in setting up a business and technology faculty at a university in Kampala. Since returning to the UK, Jamie has founded a distribution business www.africankingdom.co.uk importing value-added plant-based food products from Africa, to help create jobs and skills in Africa. He is also an executive coach, with a particular interest in pioneering, and has co-founded www.kingdombusinesspioneers.com, which runs prayer-based peer coaching groups for business leaders. He now lives with Jenny in Colchester, and they have three adult children living in London and Bristol.
